A family with two children separated two years ago and the children are struggling. The boy is using disengagement and anger as a coping mechanism and the girl is experiencing anxiety and people pleasing tendencies to try and cope with the internal struggle she is facing. The parents reached out to the Better Place Australia Supporting Children after Separation Program (SCaSP).
After an initial intake assessment and determining the matter was safe and appropriate to continue the process, the children began particpating in counselling sessions. The parents were also learning about supporting their children.
Watch the video case study snapshot where Child Counsellor, Deanne, shares more the outcome from the sessions.
Better Place Australia Supporting Children after Separation Program
Supporting children after separation builds resilience and develops healthy coping strategies through challenging periods of parental separation and family conflict. Our child counsellors support the children using evidence-based counselling techniques. This includes the development of skills, such as resilience and communication. These help children feel more confident to communicate their needs and wants through these challenging periods.
With a greater understanding of their emotions, emotion regulation, and grief and loss, your child can be empowered to confidently move forward after family separation.
Our SCaSP Program covers a large catchment area spanning South East to Western Melbourne (See locations here).
What outcomes can the child expect at Better Place Australia Supporting Children after Separation Program?
