The Role

The appointee will assume responsibility for two primary functions, one being the operational management and oversight of multidisciplinary services within a region, and the other being the provision of clinical practice supervision within their own specialist discipline (FDR).  The successful candidate/s will report directly to the Executive Manager Community Support Programs and specific areas of accountability will include:

  • Provision of clinical supervision to direct reporting personnel within their allocated sites including monitoring of clinical skills and competencies to support employees in delivering safe and high-quality services
  • Provision of guidance, information and advice to practitioners on the management of complex cases
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of service guidelines and policies in accordance with contract and program requirements.

To be considered for appointment, prospective candidates must hold registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner together with tertiary qualifications in Family Law, Mediation or similar.

Demonstrable career experience as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner is essential as is extensive experience in clinical practice management (clinical supervision) of Mediators.

Well-developed leadership and emotional intelligence skills are essential as is a proven ability to engage others, influence organisational culture and provide strong direction. Experience managing a multidisciplinary team would be a distinct advantage. A background that includes project management together with experience in writing policies and guidelines would be a distinct advantage.

The Role

Applications are now invited for the position of Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.  The appointee will be responsible for providing family dispute resolution services (mediation) with specific work tasks to include:

  • Identifying problem-solving options and strategies and providing assistance in clarifying clients’ problems and disputes
  • Assisting parents negotiate sustainable and workable parenting plans
  • Assisting parents negotiate financial settlements when these present alongside parenting issues
  • Providing assessment in relation to the provision of Certificates as required by Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner Regulations
  • Facilitation of group programs where required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Prospective candidates must be able to demonstrate registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner together with a proven ability to work within Family Law Act.  Knowledge of the effects of separation and divorce on families is essential as is an understanding of the concepts and philosophy of family dispute resolution including mediation.  Other essential criteria include the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to issues as they arise, excellent communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to rapidly build rapport with clients.

Better Place Australia has been selected to provide counselling and mediation services by the Department of Health and Human Services’s (DHHS) through the provision of service delivery at the Orange Door currently being established in Footscray.

The Role

The appointee assumes responsibility for coordinating all client activity within the program with key work activities including the following:

  • Undertaking high-level client assessment, care planning for clients, acting as a consultant with older clients in mediation services and referring clients to services that best meet their needs;
  • Provision of counselling services to older clients where appropriate and coordination of all referrals to other services within Better Place Australia;
  • Promotion of elder abuse prevention services through liaison and networking with relevant community services organisations, Aged Care Services, hospitals and alike.

To be considered for appointment to this role, prospective candidates must be either a Registered Nurse or Social Worker with appropriate tertiary qualifications.  The appointee will possess extensive experience in undertaking high-level client assessment, care planning and coordination in both community and hospital settings and will have experience in and an understanding of the Aged Care sector.  High-level skills in screening and assessment of elder abuse are essential as is well-developed knowledge of complex care options and services available to the aged.  Other essential criteria include outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, excellent time management skills and highly developed problem-solving ability.  A background in family violence would be a distinct advantage.
