Kirstan Corben is the Chief Executive Officer of Better Place Australia, appointed in August 2025. With more than 20 years of leadership experience across health, community, sport, and government sectors, Kirstan brings a deep commitment to equity, wellbeing, and the power of community to create lasting change.

Her career has been shaped by a passion for improving lives—whether through leading public health campaigns, shaping policy in mental health and gender equity, or building partnerships that make services more accessible and inclusive. She has held senior roles at VicHealth, Alfred Health, the Danny Frawley Centre, and within the Victorian Government, always working to ensure people and communities are at the heart of decision-making.

Kirstan is known for her thoughtful, collaborative leadership style and her ability to bring people together around a shared purpose. She currently serves on several boards in the health, community, and sports sectors, where she contributes her experience in governance, strategy, and social impact.

At Better Place Australia, Kirstan leads with a strong belief in the organisation’s purpose: to help people become more resilient, improve their well-being, and feel empowered to shape their own futures. Di Nally

Executive Manager Quality and Impact

Di Nally is the Executive Manager Quality and Impact at Better Place Australia, appointed in August 2026.

A qualified Social Worker, Di brings more than 30 years of professional practice experience and over 20 years in senior and executive leadership roles across the health and community services sectors. Her expertise spans community health, mental health, integrated care, housing and homelessness, child, youth and family services, suicide prevention, Aboriginal health, health promotion, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and alcohol and other drug services.

Throughout her career, Di has led the design, implementation and evaluation of innovative and transformational services, working collaboratively with communities, stakeholders and organisational partners to deliver meaningful and measurable outcomes. She also contributes to the development of future practitioners through her teaching role with RMIT University’s School of Global, Urban and Social Studies.

Di is deeply committed to improving outcomes for individuals, families and communities experiencing disadvantage. Recognised as a highly relational and values-driven leader, she champions person-centred practice and is passionate about ensuring clients, carers and supporters remain at the centre of care and service delivery.

Her leadership approach is grounded in continuous improvement, evidence-informed decision-making and amplifying the voices of people with Lived and Living Experience. Di is passionate about demonstrating impact and ensuring Better Place Australia’s services create lasting positive change for the communities it serves.

Johann Kelaart

Executive Manager Corporate Services

Johann Kelaart is the Executive Manager of Corporate Services, appointed in August 2026.  

An accomplished finance executive with extensive leadership experience across the health, aged care, education and not-for-profit sectors. He brings deep expertise in strategic planning, financial management, organisational governance and operational leadership, with a strong track record of supporting sustainable growth and organisational performance.

Johann has led multidisciplinary teams and partnered closely with executive leaders, boards and stakeholders to deliver financial stewardship, strengthen governance frameworks and support informed decision-making. He is highly skilled in translating complex financial information into practical insights, enabling organisations to effectively balance strategic priorities with operational outcomes.

Johann is recognised for his people-centred leadership style and his belief that strong organisational performance is built through empowered and engaged teams.

A qualified CPA and Fellow of CPA Australia, Johann holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Deakin University. Johann leads with a strong commitment to transparency, sound decision-making and long-term organisational sustainability. He is dedicated to ensuring an organisation’s financial strength and capability enabling it to invest in its services, support its people, and maximise its impact across the communities it serves.

Kate Stobart

Executive Manager People and Culture

Kate Stobart is the Executive Manager People and Culture at Better Place Australia, appointed in August 2026.

Kate is an accomplished People and Culture executive with more than 15 years of experience helping organisations strengthen performance through their people. She has worked across the not-for-profit, private and government sectors in Australia and internationally, bringing a strategic and values-driven approach to workforce leadership. Her experience includes leadership roles with Mayflower, Centre for Multicultural Youth, YMCA Victoria and the Australian High Commission in Singapore.

Kate partners with CEOs, executives and leaders to design and implement people strategies that drive organisational performance, build leadership capability and foster positive workplace cultures. Passionate about unlocking the potential of people, Kate believes that an organisation’s greatest competitive advantage lies in its workforce. She is committed to creating inclusive, high-performing workplaces where people and organisations thrive through shared purpose and collective effort.

Jhooma Barthwal

Interim Executive Manager Client Services
She/Her/Hers

Jhooma Barthwal is the Interim Executive Manager – Client Services at Better Place Australia, with over 20 years of experience leading mental health and community-based services. A Registered Psychologist and Board-approved Clinical Supervisor, she provides strategic and clinical leadership across service delivery, workforce development and quality improvement.

Jhooma is committed to strengthening clinical governance, building capable and reflective teams, and driving innovation that improves client outcomes. Her collaborative leadership approach focuses on empowering staff, fostering strong partnerships and ensuring services remain person-centred, evidence-informed and responsive to the evolving needs of individuals, families and communities.
