When a 65 year old could no longer pay her mortgage

Jo was a senior worker who was on her feet at work for most of the day. Eventually she developed health conditions which prevented her from being able to work full-time. As a result, her income was severely reduced and she fell behind on her mortgage. The situation was causing Jo severe stress but she kept it all to herself.

Jo eventually came to Better Place Australia for free financial counselling because she resided in one of the many funded areas. Our financial counsellor, Christine, investigated the situation. Because Jo was still in the workforce and had a super fund, she was able to access her super. But her super fund wouldn’t let her have the money.
