Specialist support for individuals and families experiencing harm from gambling

Gambling can become a problem if someone spends more time – or money – than they can afford to.  

We provide specialist financial counselling to manage financial problems that have been caused by gambling  

At BPA we can also refer you to a counselling professional who can work with you to identify factors contributing to gambling and help you manage and change these behaviours  

Whether you’re struggling yourself, worried about someone else, or just trying to better understand gambling-related behaviours, we’re here to help.  

Specialised Commonwealth Financial Counselling Services

The Financial Counselling for Gambling program provides specialised Commonwealth Financial Counselling services in targeted locations to support eligible people experiencing financial stress or hardship as a result of gambling harm. Commonwealth Financial Counselling services contribute to the FWC Activity outcomes by helping eligible people to address their financial problems, make informed choices and build longer-term capability to budget and manage their money. Commonwealth Financial Counselling services provide access to free, confidential and non-judgmental information, advice and advocacy to eligible people experiencing financial difficulty. 

What to expect 

All enquires will go directly to a qualified financial counsellor who will ask some initial questions and then match you to the most suitable service for your situation.  

Our team have a wide range of experiences, sharing relevant qualifications and speaking various languages.  

Please let us know if you require any assistance with accessing our services (eg, wheelchair/mobility aid, Auslan, etc) 

What not to expect

A financial counsellor does not:

• Provide emergency relief, money or accommodation 
• recommend any kinds of loan products  
• Organising debt consolidations 
• Providing investment or taxation advice
