The Role 

Financial Counsellors support clients to resolve or alleviate financial stress and to improve their ongoing financial capability and inclusion. This role will involve either face to face and/or telephone/online-based service delivery.

What you can expect to do in this role:

  • Assessing a client’s financial situation to understand the extent of a person’s financial difficulties and to identify options to address these.
  • Conduct interviews with clients both face to face and/or over the phone to provide triage services as required.
  • Book face to face appointments for clients and refer to other services including other Financial Counselling services where applicable.
  • Advising clients on how to access a range of entitlements and resources to improve their ability to manage their financial affairs.
  • Be upskilled or willing to upskill into Gambling Financial Counselling.
  • Participate in regular team meetings.
  • Engage in regular individual and group supervision .
  • Maintain daily contact with the team, with immediate support available as needed.

What you will require:

  • Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling), have experience in assisting clients in financial crisis and hardship and be eligible for membership of Financial Counselling Victoria (FC Vic).
  •  The ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions as issues arise.
  • Well developed interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to rapidly build rapport with clients.
  • A keen commitment to continuous learning.
  • A friendly, supportive and approachable manner.
  • Strong organisational skills with effective time management abilities.

This is a part time (up to 0.8 FTE) fixed term contract from commencement through until 30 June 2030. The role is based in Geelong however you may be required to work from other locations from time to time.
