A couple with a 12 y.o. child separated and repartnered. This caused increased tensions in communication working through parenting arrangements. The father initiated family dispute resolution (FDR) mediation through Better Place Australia.
FDR practitioner Eliza shared, “Everyone’s emotions were high, everyone’s anxiety level can be high. Each of the parents were trying to navigate these new relationships and make that work.
“They also had to try and navigate their relationship with the other parent [former partner’s new partner]. It was further complicated by the fact that they wanted their child to spend time with their new step siblings as well. The key here was around communication being between the parents, not between the parent and one of the new partners, or between the new partners. It was about juggling the post separation parenting work and their communication going forward.”
What was the outcome?
