Victoria has a strong foundation to address elder abuse. Specialist services, helplines, legal and advocacy support, mainstream family violence entry points, health and aged care providers, police, and community organisations already form a substantial response system. This multi-entry system approach can be difficult to navigate.

The current system is also under growing pressure. As Victoria’s ageing population is expected to rise, the current task is to build on this base and strengthen the current system to respond earlier and more effectively. By making the system easier to navigate, building workforce capabilities, and expanding earlier, relational support options, Victoria can ensure its response system is aligned with the will and preferences of older people and provide safety and support to reduce harm before it escalates.
