Repartnering increased the tensions in communication

Mum and dad separated, and the mum repartnered, making communication difficult and tense for dad. Arranging parenting plans was hard enough but this new situation was too much for the dad to cope with. He reached out to the Better Place Australia family dispute resolution service for mediation.

The team leader of family dispute resolution, Eliza, shared, “A lot of issues can arise when new partners come on the scene because there are also blended families to consider. A lot of the concerns [for this couple] were that the new partner was becoming involved in the communication”.

Eliza decided to run the mediation in a shuttle format, meaning, she spoke to the biological mum and dad separately about the issues.

Watch the video case study where Eliza shares the strategies she used to help them work through the issues and come to amicable arrangements for their daughter.
