The Role

The Centre for Better Relationships (the Centre) is a research initiative established by Better Place Australia.  The Centre aims to influence the research and policy landscape by generating quality-assured research outputs that are amply disseminated and enrich the debate. The primary purpose of this role is to work with the CEO and the Executive Manager Corporate Communications to take the establishment of the Centre to the next level by heading up high-quality research projects, writing publications and developing content to support policy and advocacy activities aligned to the programs delivered by Better Place Australia.  Specific objectives of the role include:

  • Enhancing the Centre’s reputation as a knowledge leader in the families and relationships space
  • Positioning the Centre as a knowledge hub for Practitioners in the sector
  • Scoping, initiation and governance of research projects
  • Growth of the Centre by identifying, applying for and attracting research grants.

This role is a unique opportunity that would suit an established research professional looking to use their passion for social justice, research, and policy to contribute to the sector. The appointee will be identifying new policy and advocacy opportunities for The Centre and using tech-savvy approaches to further our position as a thought leader.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Prospective candidates will hold an appropriate tertiary qualification in the social sciences with a strong applied research component and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.  Demonstrated extensive experience in a similar role incorporating the development and implementation of research activities is essential as is a proven ability to manage, monitor and make informed recommendations on research projects and budgets.  The successful candidate will possess highly developed qualitative and quantitative research design and data analysis skills, advanced research administration skills and a proven ability to contribute to independent and team-based research. Proficiency in the use of MS office applications is essential as is a demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.  The appointee will be comfortable using their well-developed communication and interpersonal skills to network with relevant stakeholders and will be keen to contribute to both policy and advocacy work.  A self-motivated approach with the ability to deliver outcomes with minimal direct supervision would be a distinct advantage.
