Accredited Mediator Course

Workshop Details

Become an Accredited Mediator!

Better Place Australia is offering a three-day Accredited Mediator course for people who wish to enter the profession or further develop their mediation skills. The course includes pre-reading and learning tasks undertaken prior to the course in your own time.

Download the course outline.

The course meets the requirements of the Australian National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) and is designed primarily for those wishing to further develop their mediation and conflict resolution skills and ultimately become an Accredited Mediator under NMAS. Better Place Australia has been a leader in mediation and dispute resolution for over 30 years and is a highly regarded and trusted partner for training services.

There is an increasing use of mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution in Australia where the participants, with the support of the mediator, identify issues, develop options, consider alternatives and make decisions about future actions and outcomes. The mediator supports participants to reach their own decisions as they manage the process of dispute and conflict resolution where the participants agree upon the outcomes, when appropriate.

The course is delivered by expert and experienced mediators with national accreditation. It offers a blended approach to theory and practice, primarily delivered face to face with pre-reading and learning tasks to be completed prior to the start of the course. The delivery provides a variety of learning experiences including workshop, discussion and practice of your mediation skills in role-plays and simulations. The expert facilitators who have many years of mediation experience will provide participants with coaching, guidance and feedback. There is also the opportunity to meet people with a passion for mediation and develop your professional network.

Our complete course outline can be downloaded here: course-outline-nmas-accredited-mediator-va

There are no formal pre-requisites. The course is suitable for a wide range of professionals seeking to develop their skills in dispute resolution including counsellors, human resources staff, community sector staff, managers and executives, lawyers, accountants, heath care and education professionals. It will provide practical tips, tools and techniques to manage conflict in a range of situations including families, workplace and community settings.

Employment opportunities are increasing in this area, and participants may find expanded mediation skills within their current or future roles, or find opportunities as a mediator. (source: ABS Job Outlook)
