Financial Capability – Here to help
The Better Place Australia Financial Capability program is a free, independent and confidential service funded by the Commonwealth Government. The program has been developed by Better Place Australia to provide personal support to people recovering from financial difficulty, and acts as a referral point for people to access entitlements to make managing tough times easier.
The program is supported by Financial Capability Officers.
Who can benefit from Financial Capability support?
People who have been struggling financially to manage, either on a low income or due to changed financial circumstances and would like to develop a sustainable budget to prevent financial difficulty into the future.
Young people starting out, wanting to establish their first budget and learn about the credit industry and pitfalls.
People at risk of homelessness.
Anyone wanting to build their financial skills to manage money.
Financial Capability Officers assist by
- Assessing your income and advising on entitlements, grants and concessions that may increase income and assist to pay or reduce bills
- Provide information on schemes that assist people on low income pay their bills in manageable ways
- Provide information on the availability of affordable loans and services to purchase necessary appliances
- Refer people on Centrelink benefits to access housing support funds and Emergency Relief in need.
Financial Literacy Education
Financial Capability Officers are also available to facilitate community and workplace workshops to improve participant’s understanding of financial management and the financial industry.
Financial Capability Officers can also deliver presentations to organisation’s with staff and volunteers that provide material and social support to community members.
What does it cost?
The Financial Counselling and Capability service is free, independent and confidential – funded by the Commonwealth Government.
